While Jonah and Cheyenne run into trouble during a protest, Superstore welcomes back Carol, but the Cloud 9 staff isn’t particularly welcoming.

She’s ba-ack! Superstore rolls out the welcome wagon for Carol’s grand return to Cloud 9, but the employees put an end to that welcome wagon. Because of what she did at Sandra’s wedding, everyone fears for their lives and doesn’t want anything to do with Carol. Who could blame them? Carol ends up working with the store’s robot, which almost puts an end to Carol’s reign of terror.

Meanwhile, Garrett helps Mateo exploit the gig economy when he worries work will get in the way of snagging Celine Dion tickets. As Mateo and Garrett hire a part-time worker to do their work, Jonah and Cheyenne picket on the frontline for wage equality. But Jonah goes to extremes to prove himself loyal to the cause. As if anyone could be more loyal to a cause than Jonah.

Let’s recap the latest episode of Superstore with the five best jokes from “Carol’s Back.”

1. “I’ve got this sweet Norma Rae gif I’ve been wanting to use.” “I don’t watch Real Housewives.”

Jonah cashes in on his time off to picket for Raise the Wage at the Gateway sub shop. To his surprise, Cheyenne shows up, but her intentions aren’t entirely for the cause but for her cause: She wants to make more money. However, the pair quickly run into an issue with Jonah’s credibility. Tommy, the the leader of the protest, thinks Jonah is a narc for Gateway. Naturally, the idea of someone thinking less of him makes Jonah jump into image overhaul overdrive.

2. “Look, if it were up to me, she wouldn’t be working here at all. Most of you wouldn’t be.”

Batten down the hatches, Carol has returned! After taking a leave of absence for the terror(s) she unleashed at Sandra’s wedding, Carol has been cleared to return to work. The problem? No one at Cloud 9 wants to work with her. No matter where Amy places her on the floor, everyone refuses to share space with Carol. Dina leads the anti-Carol movement and assures her fellow employees that if she had her say, Carol would be out… as would everyone else. You have to love Dina’s honesty!

3. “With Celine, you don’t want to be too far away… or too close.”

When Mateo worries that he won’t be able to snag Celine Dion tickets when they go on sale because work will get in the way, Garrett suggests he hire someone from an app to take over. Of course, it would have to ben under the table since this for-hire worker wouldn’t be an official part of the Cloud 9 team. But Mateo and Garrett team up to take advantage of the gig economy while they sit back, eat Takis, and try to score Mateo perfect seats at Celine’s show. Their worker leaves for the night and says goodbye to Amy, prompting her to fittingly ask, “What the f— was that?”

4. “I just made up the no-pants guy because you were biffing it so hard.”

In true Jonah fashion, his attempts to smooth things over with Tommy only make himself look more like a narc, which is precisely why Jonah couldn’t be a narc. He’s horrible at lying and acting. Luckily, Cheyenne saves him from making a fool of himself by fabricating a story about a man with no pants to Tommy. Later, Jonah proves himself to Tommy by crossing the limits of their protest permit and interfering with Gateway’s customer traffic. After dumping a trash can in the street, Jonah flees the scene with Cheyenne, having proven himself a Raise the Wage warrior.

5. “Carol, honey, I found a clump of your hair. I’m gonna put it in your pocket.”

When even Amy can’t stomach working with Carol, especially after her ominous threats of calling HR higher-up C.J. DeBono (no one knows who he is, but they all inherently fear him), Amy pairs Carol with the cleaning robot. She spent the day with Dina digging through her purse (it was actually Janet’s) and everyone thinking the worst of her, but it turns out getting electrocuted by the robot was the pit of her day. As they roll her out on a stretcher, Sandra watches the security camera footage of the electrocution and chuckles, morbidly loving the moment karma struck.
