Just Friends (2005)

Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) had a rough high school experience which saw him learn his crush Jamie Palomino (Amy Smart) was not interested in him. 10 years into the future, Chris is a thriving, eligible bachelor in Southern California in Just Friends.

As part of his job as a producer in the music industry, he must travel to Paris with loony singer Samantha (Anna Faris), but her mishaps cause them to land in the place where Chris grew up, New Jersey. The now older Chris must deal with things and people from his past, and he also ends up meeting Jamie, who is still living in town.

The protagonist realizes the world has gifted him a second chance to be with Jamie, and this time he believes he can woo her. Things hilariously start going south from there, as Chris must deal with an ice-skating injury, Samantha’s craziness at home, and the suave, handsome Dusty Dinkleman (Chris Klein), who also has his eyes on Jamie.

Will Brander ever get his chance to be with the girl who got away?

National Lampoon’s Van Wilder (2002)

There’s a saying that college is the best four years of your life. Van Wilder (Ryan Reynolds) has decided to continue partying and living on that dream, as he is now in his seventh year of college in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder.

Who cares about class and getting out into the real world? Wilder spends his days being popular and doing what he wants, with no serious responsibilities. He’s dished a harsh dose of reality when his old man (Tim Matheson) cuts short the money towards his college enrollment. Now, Van must come up with the money himself to stay!

The protagonist must deal with a variety of factors overall, including the usual parties and pranks, getting the money, dealing with a dogged reporter (Tara Reid) named Gwen attempting to interrogate him, realizing his budding feelings for the reporter, and possibly getting expelled from college after being framed by Gwen’s boyfriend Richard (Daniel Cosgrove).

Will the campus “legend” be able to continue his days at Coolidge College and concoct some more epic parties?
