2. Dean works with a new partner.

I’m already in love with Gene. I just feel bad he’s stuck working with someone like Dean. Yes, that’s right, Dean’s new partner is named Gene, although Dean doesn’t find it nearly as humorous as Gene does. We met Gene briefly in the premiere episode of the season. He was the cop that Felix and Jess almost confessed to.

This week, he gets a lot more to do as he tries to help Dean track down Max, hoping to get intel on Nia. Dean has been reassigned to Nia’s case in the narcotics department, and he’s intent on finding Max. He comes up empty this week, but I don’t think he’s going to give up easily.

1. Max and Murphy are forced to say goodbye.

In the most heartbreaking scene of the episode, Max and Murphy say goodbye to each other, for now. Max would have stuck around in hiding for Murphy, as he is painfully in love with her, and admits he “doesn’t know how to not be with her.”

Before they part ways, they do get a few steamy kisses and they even get to spend a night together, but unfortunately, it’s not meant to last. I’m positive we’ll see Max again this season, I think their story is far from over.

That said, I think it was necessary for the show to send him on his way, or potentially his own story arc, to ensure that the show can focus on things back at Guiding Hope. The criminal conspiracy and mystery of Benjamin’s death is this season’s focal point.

Murphy knows that to make Max leave, she has to convince him she doesn’t want him anymore. It’s hard to watch, especially because it doesn’t seem fair to either character after having suffered so much, but hopefully, it’ll make their inevitable reunion that much sweeter.

  • Darnell implies that Max still has his nest egg of money from Nia stashed away somewhere. Will he find out the $100 grand is missing and connect it back to Murphy?
