The queen gets slayed

There are moves like Erik Reichenbach giving up final immunity in Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites, J.T. giving Russel the idol in Survivor: Heroes vs.Villains and there are moves like this one. Upon learning that Boston Rob had been voted out of Yara, Tony insisted that the big threats stick together and suggested keeping Jeremy over Denise. Unfortunately, Sandra, who still had allies on the Sele and Dakal tribes, felt this move served only to benefit Tony.

As a result, she approached Denise, who was on the outs on Nu-Dakal alongside Jeremy due to being apart of the original Sele tribe. Sandra asked for two fire tokens, and, in exchange, gave Denise a hidden immunity idol, to protect Denise from that night’s vote, with the understanding that Denise would vote out either Tony or Jeremy.

At tribal council, things seemed to be going off without a hitch when Denise played Sandra’s hidden immunity idol for herself.

However, Sandra quickly realized things were not what they seemed when Denise pulled out a second hidden immunity idol and played it for Jeremy. While Denise ended up burning one of her hidden immunity idols, she successfully sent Sandra to the Edge of Extinction with one vote.

Sandra’s strength is laying low and working on her social relationships so that when bigger targets reveal themselves, she’s in good with those opposed to them. Although she’d been targeted by Tyson, Sandra had the benefit of probably being able to lay low until right before the merge.

It in no way benefited her to break from her “Anyone But Me” strategy, because at that moment she was in the majority alliance with no real worry of being targeted.

What makes this move even worse, is that Sandra confirmed in her CBS exit interview for Survivor: Winners at War that she asked Denise to vote out Jeremy, although, in Episode 6 of Survivor: Winners at War, Sandra made it clear that she knew Denise and Jeremy were aligned.

Sandra attempted to weaken Tony by voting out Jeremy, although there was no way that Denise was going to vote out her only ally. If there’s a choice between taking out a big target and weakening them, just take the shot.
