Usher picked a song during Songland Season 2, Episode 10

We’ve had a wide variety of artists pick songs during Songland Season 2. None of them have needed a song written for them, but they’ve focused on giving new songwriters a chance. That’s exactly what Usher has also done during the most recent episode.

He picked one song out of the four hopefuls to take to the show. Which song did he pick in the end?

We’re getting into the spoilers for the episode. If you haven’t watched Songland Season 2, Episode 10 yet, be warned!

The four hopefuls

As with every episode, four hopefuls shared their songs for the R&B legend. Miranda Glory was the first to share her song, who followed everything her older sisters did. When she followed their interests in songwriting, she found her passion. And that passion was brought to the panel with the song “Salty.”

Ryan Cam was up next, who spent time understanding more about how the likes of Alycia Keys would connect with him through music. As he mimicked that, he could then find his own voice and style, and he showed that off with the song “Stand Over.”

The third hopeful was David Wade, who grew up in foster care and he certainly says that his experience was a gift. It brought him music, and it led to him creating the song “Horse and Carriage.” One of the downsides to the song was how much it spoke to the R&B audience but wouldn’t connect to others, but there was definitely potential.

Finally, Fatherdude took to the stage with the song “Billions.” His stage name comes from the TV show Mystery Science Theater Year 3000. This is one of those songs with a wide message, but would it speak enough to Usher?

Who would head to the studio?

Only three could make it through to the studio stage. Which one wouldn’t make it through?

Fatherdude would be the one not making it through. While the track was great, it wasn’t quite where Usher is at right now for a song.

Of course, only one would be chosen by Usher as his next track. Which one would be the winner?

The winner is: Ryan Cam with the new song “California”
