7. Why Younger fans might enjoy Broad City
Who’s in it: Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer
What it’s about: Based on their real-life friendship and web series of the same name, Broad City stars creators and writers Abbi Jacobson and Ilana as, who else, Abbi and Ilana. The inseparable best friend duo makes their way through New York City one hot-mess misadventure at a time.
An aspiring artist and career slacker, Abbi and Ilana often find themselves at odds with their own bad luck and questionable behavior. With the help of some marijuana and a mixed bag of friends and roommates, the laugh-out-loud series is a love letter to making mistakes in your twenties.
Why you should watch: Younger might not have much in common with Broad City besides being set in New York City and centering on the millennial lifestyle. But it’s not too far out of the realm of possibility for these two shows to exist in the same cinematic universe. We’ve even previously mused on what a crossover event between the shows would look like.
Just imagine Abbi and Ilana pitching a book at Empirical, inappropriately flirting with Charles, and then taking Liza, Kelsey, and the rest of the girls out for a wild night of debauchery.
That’s beside the point, and it’s no longer possible. However, watching Broad City is still totally possible. While it’s probably a harder sell for the higher end of the 18-49 demographic, the Comedy Central sitcom similarly makes the city a key character in the various stories and zeroes in on the intricacies of female friendship.
Free of cliffhangers and high-stakes personal drama, Broad City’s definitely the wilder little sister of Younger you’ll want to party with until Season 7.
