Pen15 season 2 is just around the streamable corner. So if you’re ready to take another awkward walk down memory lane, let’s go. I know I am. In case you haven’t gotten into the critically acclaimed Hulu Original (yet), here’s what you missed, more or less.

Flash back to middle school—the series follows the awkward adventures in adolescence of two seventh grade BFFs, Maya Ishii-Peters and Anna Kone. Also important to note that both tweens are portrayed by adult actresses Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle, only adding to the hilarity and awkwardness of it all.

Endearing as it is cringeworthy, the early 2000s nostalgia comedy is coming back with 14 new episodes.

The Emmy-nominated show will return to the Hulu screen on September 18.

If you thought season 1 encapsulated all that your middle school nightmares were made of, think again. Apparently, season 2 is going to be filled with just as sizable growing pains, but the tone of the show will be taking a darker, more nightmarish, and somehow even more hilarious tone. In other words, the nightmare’s about to get real.

Erskine told Entertainment Weekly of the new season:

"We’re hoping to keep the show about Anna and I in 7th grade, forever. That’s what the whole concept of the show is about: that purgatory. It’s not about these two characters going to high school."

While high school might be out of sight from the creators’ minds for now, the characters’ extra curricular activities are going to a bit more mature (and experimental) this go-around when it comes to shared firsts.

Of course, Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle will be returning in perpetual and eternal seventh grader form. We’re not sure yet what new cast members will be joining for season 2.
