6. Charlie’s Angels

Original release date: Charlie’s Angels first made its premiere at Mann’s Chinese Theatre on Oct. 22, 2000, before hitting theaters on Nov. 3, 2000.

Box office earnings: The film became a box office success, bringing in $264.1 million worldwide against a budget of $93 million.

Critical acclaim: Despite its commercial success, Charlie’s Angels didn’t manage to completely wow critics. The film holds a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and though some critics were hard on the thin storytelling and other aspects, the leading trio of actresses received praise.

About the role: Drew Barrymore stars in Charlie’s Angels as Dylan Sanders, one of three private investigators who travel the world for a millionaire named Charlie. Together with Natalie (Cameron Diaz) and Alex (Lucy Liu), the spunky Dylan helps thwart a billionaire’s new software from landing in the wrong hands. Barrymore also reprised her role, as did Diaz and Liu, for the 2003 sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

Why it’s the best: These days, the weak reviews of Charlie’s Angels don’t matter much to the millennials who have since claimed the movie as their own. But something Barrymore didn’t (and doesn’t) earn enough credit for was producing the reboot. For years (and to this day), the star worked behind the scenes with her Flower Films production company to bring a variety of stories to life. Charlie’s Angels was one of many successes, and it wouldn’t have been nearly as special without her incomparable touch.
