Johnny Weir is joining Dancing with the Stars Season 29

1. Johnny Weir is about the best Dancing with the Stars Season 29 can get

Trying to figure out where to even begin with explaining why Johnny Weir is one of the all-time best Dancing with the Stars picks is a feat so great, it ought to come with its own Mirrorball Trophy. Fellow figure skaters Kristi Yamaguchi, Meryl Davis, and Adam Rippon are already winners—and with good reason. The best skaters (especially ice dancers like Davis) are more than capable of learning complex choreography and actually emoting while performing it. Given his history, Weir should be no different.

But that’s not all that sets Johny Weir apart as, quite possibly, the contestant to watch on Dancing with the Stars Season 29. He brings so much more to the table, including a somewhat recent appearance on Lip Sync Battle and having already starred in a reality series of his own.

(Yes, some of us actually do remember Be Good, Johnny Weir.)

There’s also Johnny’s recent role on Netflix’s Spinning Out and his years of providing commentary for NBC alongside Tara Lipinski. The guy comes with a built-in fanbase from all over the entertainment map; and while others might have trouble adapting to wearing some of the more bedazzled DWTS costumes, Weir should eat those up. He is not, after all, exactly known for having a tame wardrobe, either while still a competitive skater or during his time as a color commentator, after all.

If there’s any justice in this world, Johnny Weir will do very well on DWTS Season 29. And if 2020 wants to give us back any good whatsoever, he’ll get to show off both sides of his artistry: Think “The Swan” versus “Poker Face,” and then realize, he’s both.
