Monica Aldama is coming to Dancing with the Stars Season 29
DALLAS, TX – FEBRUARY 15: Oprah Winfrey speaks with the cast of Netflix’s “Cheer”, (L-R) Monica Aldama, Jerry Harris, Gabi Butler, Lexi Brumback, TT Barker and Dillon Brandt during Oprah’s 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus Tour presented by WW (Weight Watchers Reimagined) at American Airlines Center on February 15, 2020 in Dallas, Texas. 2. Monica Aldama is putting the Cheer in Dancing with the Stars Season 29

When Cheer premiered on Netflix, it became a huge hit and propelled the Navarro College cheer team to stardom. Viewers fell in love with the daredevil athletes, especially considering most of the highlighted team members had faced plenty of difficulty off the mat before even beginning to try the ridiculous moves on it.

More from ABC

We also couldn’t help but root for the team’s coach, Monica Aldama, after seeing just how much she cared about her student athletes and tried so hard to be a good mentor and shoulder to lean on for them. That did not, however, mean she was a softy. When it came to the business of actually learning and perfecting routines, Aldama was all about the tough love—and we wouldn’t have her any other way.

It will be very interesting to see how Monica adapts when she’s the one learning the choreography and receiving the tough love. As far as we’re concerned, though, if anyone can rip the Dancing with the Stars Season 29 win out from under Johnny Weir’s sharpened blades? It’s Monica Aldama.

3. Also from Netflix but in the completely nuts category: Carole Baskin

It wouldn’t be DWTS without at least one contestant that promises to be a joke, and Carole Baskin seems to be the candidate for Dancing with the Stars Season 29. Yes, that Carole Baskin.

Like Cheer, Baskin’s Netflix show, Tiger King, was a huge hit. But that’s just about where the similarities end.

Does she have any kind of potential for success beyond the pure entertainment value level, whatsoever? Who cares? Anyone who watches reality TV for the ridiculousness of it all will almost surely be tuning in to see what Carole’s time on DWTS Season 29 has in store for her.

And maybe some of you detectives at home will be looking for more evidence as to whether or not she killed her husband. Her time in the ballroom could be short-lived; or maybe, viewers will vote to keep her on for as long as possible, just to keep as many excuses to binge eat popcorn as possible.
