9. Revolutionary Road

Release date: Jan. 23, 2009

Box office earnings: This wasn’t the financial success the studio would have hoped for, and it’s not like it had a big budget compared to some of the other Leonardo DiCaprio movies on this list. It didn’t even make its budget back in the US, and gained $75m worldwide.

Critical acclaim: The movie was nominated for three Oscars but nothing for the leads. It received okay reviews from both critics and audiences.

About the role: DiCaprio takes on the role of Frank Wheeler in this movie, the man in the lead couple looking to save his marriage. We see the highs and lows of the relationship. All he wants to do is make things work, but can all marriages be saved?

That’s a question for him and the audience throughout the heartfelt, grounded movie. It’s one of the Leonardo DiCaprio movies you need to watch.

Simply the best: If you’re expecting a typical romance movie, then Revolutionary Road isn’t for you. This is a movie that touches on real problems and issues in relationships. The lead couple is falling out of love, and yet Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have so much chemistry on screen.

They want to make their marriage work, but everything is stacked against them. You want to fight for them to win, but there are times you’ll scream at the screen. And, of course, this was the movie that put DiCaprio and Winslet back together onscreen after years of waiting.
