Critical acclaim: The movie would win 11 Oscars at the awards, and was nominated for three others. While DiCaprio wasn’t nominated, his leading lady, Kate Winslet, was. It was praised by critics and is Certified Fresh. Audiences have been more on the fence about it.
About the role: DiCaprio plays Jack, an American who manages to win his way on the RMS Titanic, and from the start you know it’s not going to end well for him. After all, he’s a Third Class passenger on an ill-fated ship.
He falls in love with a woman from First Class, and quickly creates enemies among her fiancé and mother. However, that doesn’t stop him pursuing her, nor does it stop her from pursuing him.
Simply the best: So yes, this list does have to start with one of the earliest and move infamous Leonardo DiCaprio movies out there. Titanic is arguably the movie that put him on the map. It’s the one that made him a crush for all teenage girls at the time. And the movie wasn’t absolutely terrible.
We got the start of the layers that DiCaprio would eventually bring to other characters. He wouldn’t always play “good” characters, but he brought complicated characters to screen and it started with Jack.
