Let’s discuss the first-ever Big Brother Double Eviction

Big Brother is a game about positioning yourself in the best spot to progress week-to-week by maintaining solid relationships and minimizing your threat level. Unfortunately, sometimes the target can catch up with you. At no point in the game is this more true than during a Big Brother Double Eviction.

On this dreaded occasion, the HouseGuests experience a week’s worth of Big Brother in one night, meaning that those who believed themselves to be in a safe spot can find themselves on the block and out the door in a matter of minutes. So how did this legendary twist come to be?

Of course, the answer is found within the season that brought us the first-ever Big Brother backdoor and the first-ever Twin Twist, Big Brother 5. Let’s get into it!

Do Not Assume

In Week 7, Adria Klein and Michael “Cowboy” Ellis were nominated for eviction by Marvin Latimer. HouseGuest Karen Ganci would end up winning that week’s POV competition, and although Adria would put pressure on Karen, she would choose not to save either nominee from the chopping block. By the end of the week, Adria would be evicted by a vote of 4-0, becoming the third member of the Jury.

Following Adria’s eviction, the remaining HouseGuests would compete in the live HOH competition, which eventual Big Brother 5 champion Drew Daniel would end up winning.

Before the night was up, Julie would remind the group of that season’s motto, “Do Not Assume.” She would then reveal to them that within less than 48 hours, another HouseGuest would be leaving the Big Brother House, which meant that Drew would have to secure his nominations later that night.

Better to kiss and tell

Thankfully, it would be a task made a bit easier due to Drew’s growing distrust of Marvin, who had kissed Drew’s showmance, Diane, a few days prior, to sow seeds of distrust between the lovebirds.

While Drew would be upset that Diane didn’t tell him about the kiss, he would use this incident to convince the other HouseGuests, including Diane, that he wasn’t as close with her as they thought.

So when it came time for the Nomination Ceremony, Diane would find herself nominated next to Marvin. Although Drew would later assure her that she was a pawn, Diane would ask Nakomis, Karen, and Cowboy to keep nominations the same, not wanting to be nominated next to anyone but Marvin on Eviction Night. Luckily, Diane would control her fate by winning the POV.

When it came time for the Veto Meeting, Diane would take herself off the block, and in her place, Drew would nominate Nakomis, sealing Marvin’s fate, as when Eviction Night came, he would be evicted by a vote of 3-0. This version of the Double Eviction would return in Big Brother 6, claiming Jennifer Vasquez and Rachel Plencner as its victims. The Double Eviction Week would make its final appearance in Week 7 of Big Brother 7, claiming Howie Gordon and James Rhine.

The first Double Eviction Night, wherein the HouseGuests would experience a week’s worth of Big Brother in a single night with minimal time to strategize, would make its first appearance a week later, claiming Danielle Reyes and “Chicken George” Boswell.

Since then, the Big Brother Double Eviction has become a staple of the game, providing drama every season as the HouseGuests scramble to save themselves on a night where everyone is fair game.
