The 5 moments that made us say ‘WTF’ from Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 5

Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 5 certainly pulled at the heartstrings. It put a face to all the deaths happening, but not exactly who fans were expecting.

The episode saw two important patients brought into Grey Sloan Memorial. One of those was extremely personal to Bailey. Meanwhile, Jo rethought her life as a surgeon. It’s time to look at the five WTF moments from Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 5.

Koracick calling out for his son

The episode opened with Koracick being brought into the hospital. His COVID-19 symptoms were serious, so serious that he was delusional and calling out for his deceased son. Naturally, that had everyone concerned, including Amelia, who came into the hospital to help.

By the end of the hospital, Teddy went to see Koracick and clear the air. She told him how she couldn’t bear to lose him, in spite of everything that’s happened. Well, it turned out Koracick heard it all. It looks like he’s making a full recovery.

Jackson and Webber teaming up against Catherine

Jackson has a slightly lighter issue to deal with. He is fed up with his mom not wearing a mask properly. As an immuno-suppressed woman, she needs the mask to offer some protection. Weren’t we told the masks aren’t to protect us but to protect other people from us?

Anyway, Jackson just fears that Catherine thinks she’s Wonder Woman and that the virus won’t affect her. He turns to Webber to help, who has the perfect way to do it. It’s not something Jackson wants to think about, but it was an easy outcome.

Jo delivers a baby

Jo struggles with her job during Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 5. She’s fed up of operating on patients where a lot of them die anyway. She’s fed up of walking through a hospital where there’s so much more death than normal. It’s not the job she signed up for.

However, there are two incidences that remind her of the good things. The first is a liver dissection that leads to a lot of praise. The second is delivering a baby, reminding her of all the good in life. We can’t lose Jo!

Maggie sharing her regrets

Bailey has an extremely difficult episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Her mom is brought into the hospital with COVID-19, and it’s soon clear that her mom isn’t going to last the night. Bailey has to decide whether she puts her mom on a vent and fights or just allows her mom to go peacefully.

Maggie is the one that helps with this. She’s the one that can speak from experience after all. Maggie shares that she wishes she just helped her mom pass peacefully instead of acting as a surgeon. There are a lot of regrets she has, and she doesn’t want Bailey to have the same ones.

Bailey helping her mom pass

In the end, Bailey does decide to help her mom pass peacefully. This WTF moment is one that brought a tear to my eyes, and I’ll admit that’s not really happened to much on Grey’s Anatomy in recent years. Not like some of the earliest seasons. But this episode did it.

Bailey, with Webber there to support her, sings “My Girl” to her mom. This song clearly meant something to her mom because it calmed her mom down when initially brought into the hospital. It was all Bailey’s mom needed to pass away peacefully. I’m just heartbroken that Bailey’s dad didn’t get the chance to say goodbye because of the situation COVID-19 has caused.
