Those who follow celebrities will likely be familiar with Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s ongoing case, which stemmed from accusations of domestic abuse. The two actors wed back in 2015 after meeting on the set of The Rum Diary (2011), but it didn’t take long for the drama to begin.

As reported by Insider, Heard filed for divorce about a year later, along with her allegations that Depp was abusive towards her. Depp denies the accusations, and in the years since, Heard wrote a powerful op-ed for The Washington Post, detailing how her experience has been after coming forward with the allegations.

More recently, Johnny Depp decided to sue The Sun’s parent company News Group Newspapers, as well as the publication’s executive editor Dan Wootton for libel. Apparently, in an article from the tabloid back in 2018, the actor was called a “wife-beater,” something he took offense to.

Last month, the court decided against Depp in the libel case, explaining that they believed The Sun was correct in reporting that he had been abusive towards Heard. While the Pirates of the Caribbean actor maintains his innocence, his reputation has gone from bad to worse.

Now, a former co-star and close friend, Helena Bonham Carter, is speaking up about the libel case verdict. According to the International Business Times, the actress recently spoke with The Telegraph, where she explained her confusion over the situation.

The Crown star told the publication that she is “totally flummoxed” over the verdict.

IBT also reports that Carter has sent a request to the Court of Appeal regarding London’s verdict, which was handled by Judge Nicol. We’ll have more on that if we hear any news.

Clearly, Johnny Depp has his friends in his corner, but it will take a lot more than that to prove anything.
