NBC changed its scheduling at the last minute, meaning no new episode of Chicago Fire

One Chicago fans tuned into NBC on Jan. 6 ready for new episodes to return. It has been a long two-month break, and it turns out that it is one extra week longer. Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD didn’t air new episodes on Jan. 6 after all.

What went on with the scheduling? It all happened very last minute, with the announcement not made by Deadline until after Chicago Med was supposed to start.

In fact, it was so last minute that Med fans in Canada got the chance to watch a new episode. CityTV stuck to the original plan for the first hour of the night. Chicago Fire and Chicago PD were preempted.

Why did this happen? It was all to do with the news.

NBC continued live coverage after the Capitol chaos

The events in DC took over the stations throughout the day. The world watched in horror as the Capitol was thrown into chaos and danger.

While it was mostly over by the time primetime would usually air on the east coast, there was still a lot to cover. There were statements to be made. The networks opted to preempt coverage of new content, starting with ABC with NBC following suit. CBS also opted not to air reruns of SEAL Team and SWAT on the east coast for the live news coverage.

So no, you didn’t miss a new episode. It won’t be on Hulu on Jan. 7. Chicago Fire Season 9, Episode 3 won’t air until Jan. 13 now.

It is disappointing. After all, it’s been two months without new episodes. We were holding onto Jan. 6 as the return date, and now everyone has to wait a week longer.
