Anyone getting nervous that perhaps the highly-anticipated Friends reunion wouldn’t be happening any longer can rest easy: Lisa Kudrow has just confirmed it is indeed still in the works, and she’s even just revealed a bit of exciting news on top of that.

According to People, the Phoebe Buffay actress recently spoke with Rob Lowe during an episode of his Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast, where of course she was asked questions about the reunion special.

In case you missed it, the main cast members of Friends, including Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc, all signed on for an unscripted special which was supposed to premiere back in May 2020. However, COVID-19 delays pushed back production, meaning the reunion has basically been in limbo for the past few months.

Seeming very optimistic, Kudrow assured listeners that the reunion will still happen and that she’s already filmed parts of it. She also confirmed that they’re expected to shoot the full special in “early spring,” something that her former co-star Matthew Perry had previously revealed.

“There’s different facets to it, and we already shot packages of things,” Kudrow shared. “I pre-shot something already so we’re definitely doing it, because I already shot a little something.”

Lisa Kudrow also explained what we can expect from the special, telling Lowe:

"It’s not a reboot. It’s not like a scripted thing, we’re not portraying our characters. It’s us getting together, which just doesn’t happen a lot and has never happened in front of other people since 2004 when we stopped."

Back in November, Perry took to Twitter to drop an announcement all fans of Friends were looking for: A new filming date for the reunion. “Friends reunion being rescheduled for the beginning of March,” he wrote. “Looks like we have a busy year coming up. And that’s the way I like it!”

It seems the cast of the beloved series are all just as excited about the upcoming special as the fans are, and we cannot wait to see what they’ve got cooked up for us. As of now, we can expect to see the Friends reunion at some point around mid-2021, premiering exclusively on HBO Max.
