When it comes to iconic television series, there are few that have had quite as large of an impact on pop culture as Friends. The series which defined a generation has only grown in popularity after its conclusion more than a decade ago so when HBO Max first announced it would be putting together a Friends reunion special back in early 2020 it goes without saying that interest was at an all-time high.

Like many projects, the Friends reunion special suffered a few setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic but after several delays, the special has finally been filmed and will soon arrive on HBO Max for fans to enjoy!

Friends reunion release date

After an extended delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, HBO Max has announced the Friends reunion special will debut on Thursday, May 27 to mark the one-year anniversary of HBO Max’s launch.

What is the Friends reunion?

The HBO Max Friends reunion special will be an unscripted celebration of Friends set against the backdrop of the show’s original soundstage, Stage 24, located on the Warner Bros. Studio lot. The special will mark the first time the Friends cast of Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer will return to the soundstage and appear together in a special designed to reflect upon the show’s legacy.

Friends reunion special guest list

Of course, the big draw of the Friends reunion special is the chance to see the show’s core cast members reunite for the first time together on screen; however, no tribute would be complete without a few special guests and it seems HBO Max has lined up quite the impressive guest list for the special.

While it’s unclear how exactly they’re involved in the special, the following individuals have all been confirmed to appear during the Friends: The Reunion special in some capacity: David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Elliott Gould, Kit Harington, Larry Hankin, Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon, Christina Pickles, Tom Selleck, James Michael Tyler, Maggie Wheeler, Reese Witherspoon and Malala Yousafzai.

With an official release date set, HBO Max has finally released our first teaser for the upcoming Friends reunion special. Although the first teaser, which you can check out below, doesn’t offer up much it does provide us with our first look at the Friends cast back together on the Warner Bros. Studio lot walking side by side.

How to watch the Friends reunion special

Those hoping to catch the Friends reunion special, now entitled Friends: The Reunion, will need to be sure to subscribe to HBO Max as the streaming service will be the exclusive home to the highly anticipated special which we now know will premiere on Thursday, May 27.
