Riverdale 5B has yet to start airing, but the series has made such a name for itself on The CW that fans are clamoring for information on the possibility of a Riverdale season 6. It’s understandable given this rollicking, rollercoaster of a teen soap opera has been fascinating viewers and driving them up a wall since its debut in 2017.

Season 5, however, has upped the ante by using a crucial time jump to revitalize the series. Instead of meddlesome high school students, the main characters are now late twentysomethings navigating relationships, family drama, and personal conflict as adults.

It’s a change to the story that’s brought new energy to the series without leaving behind what’s made Riverdale a stand-out TV show for nearly 5 years. But will that legacy continue?

Here’s what we know about Riverdale‘s future on The CW.

How many seasons of Riverdale are there?

There are five seasons of Riverdale, four of which are currently available to stream on Netflix. Season 5 is still airing on The CW, though the show is in the middle of a four-month-long hiatus that will see the series off-screen until Wednesday, August 11.

Is there going to be a season 6 of Riverdale?

The CW renewed the majority of its line-up in a sweep that included Riverdale. The series will be returning for a sixth season.

How many episodes of Riverdale season 6 are there?

Pre-pandemic Riverdale typically had a 22 episode run with the exception of its season one debut which capped at 13 episodes. Both season 4 and season 5 of the series were shortened due to COVID. It’s unclear whether or not Riverdale season 6 will maintain the 19 episode run of corona-era seasons or if the show will revert back to a 22 episode season run.

When is Riverdale season 6 filming?

Riverdale season 6 isn’t filming yet this is due to season 5 still being in production. The cast and crew of the series are currently working on the second half of the season.

Fans of Toni Topaz will be excited to know Vanessa Morgan has made her way back to set with her baby in tow. Per her Instagram post on April 15, being back at work looks a little different for her nowadays.

The Pussycats will also be making a return to the screen with Josie, Valerie, and Melody back to shake, rattle, and roll together as a band. Riverdale 5B is about to be a gas which has us even more excited for season 6. But until season 5 of Riverdale wraps production, it’s hard to know when filming on the next season could begin.

Riverdale season 6 release date

Somehow, some way, Riverdale season 6 will premiere this fall as a part of The CW’s opening line-up for their 2021-2022 television year.

An official date has yet to be released, however, Decider reports the series will be moving from its traditional Wednesday slot to Tuesdays at 9 p.m. after The Flash. That’s not all. We’re in for a 5-episode event set to kick off the new season.

Could this mean we’re about to see the crossover between Riverdale, Katy Keene, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina that showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been teasing? We certainly hope so!

We’ll keep you posted on more Riverdale season 6 release date news as it comes in.
