We’re back for another fashionable turn in the Upper East Side with Gossip Girl (2021) episode 3, “Lies Wide Shut.”

Last Thursday, Julien, Obie, and Zoya managed to avoid the ever prevalent love triangle by being more mature than one would expect from a romantic entanglement starring two sisters and the boy they both like. But, that seems to be par for the course with this reboot.

The verdict is still out on whether a lack of drama stirred up by these teens’ love lives will be a strength or a weakness of the series, but their adult counterparts have more than enough problems to supplement the absence.

Yes, that includes the romance department. Are you ready to jump into some spoilery mess because let us tell you, these adults are messy in “Lies Wide Shut.”

Gossip Girl (2021) episode 3 “Lies Wide Shut” is full of secrets

Spoilers ahead of Gossip Girl episode 3

In the opening of the episode, Gossip Girl opines about the three lives everyone lives. A public life, a private one, and a life that’s a secret. She throws in the addition of a dating life to add some spice and make it a quartet. Her monologue is also how we know love is about to be down bad in “Lies Wide Shut.”

Who’s up on the heartbreak chopping block? Well, Julien is newly single and mingling all around the globe to no avail. Zoya and Obie are going through growing pains because parasocial relationships are the worst and Twitter is full of bullies. Not to mention, Aki and Audrey are both harboring secret dalliances with Max who honestly doesn’t care about their romantic drama.

Sprinkle in a shake down at Constance St. Jude’s in an effort to find out who Gossip Girl is. Generously pour in two hidden affairs among the parents and you have a recipe for disaster in episode 3. Plus, the bonus of some sleuthing and catfishing. If someone isn’t pretending to be somebody else online then are we really in the 21st century?

A picture is worth a thousand words but a lot of damage can also be done with a few characters. Just ask Luna whose mission to make Little Z’s social media life a living hell in her spare time is going swimmingly. She and Monet, who can plot and mack on girls at the same time, are making plans for the future.

With Julien’s time as queen under threat, they’ve got to consider other options. Z is one of them. Not that they like the freshmen, but they’ve got a brand to uphold and if Julien can’t foot the bill then Zoya may have to do. She is the new girlfriend of the prince of New York, Obie, who also happens to be the king of Constance St. Jude’s despite literally doing nothing to earn that position, but I digress.

Julien should watch her back, but she’s a little busy watching her father whose trips to Berlin haven’t made it past international waters. He’s be lying! And a woman’s involved! Cue the detective work and bring in the trench coat! Also, make room for Max in this boat because his happy family ain’t so happy either.

One of Max’s dads is hiding an Earth shattering secret, and you won’t believe how Max finds out. Mortifying, party of one. Looping one of his teachers into the mix is absolutely the wrong play, but a teen watching his family crumble around him is going to make a desperate choice. One that will have fireworks blasting off when the truth hits the fan.

Speaking of the truth, the teachers of Constance St. Jude’s are looking for a patsy to take the fall for them over Gossip Girl. Et tu, Brute? Why, yes. Yes, indeed. Oh, how power corrupts absolutely.

Tune into Gossip Girl (2021) episode 3 to find out how this all shakes out. Until then, see you next Thursday. XOXO Hidden Remote.
