Motherland: Fort Salem season 2 has upped the ante with the ending to “My 3 Dads.”

What started off as an exploration of family dynamics, grief, and the truth spiraled in the last few minutes of the episode into a game changing series of events.

But in a moment of calm, before Alder was attacked with molten melt by Nicte and Raelle was kidnapped presumably by the Camarilla, we got to hear Raelle sing to Tally.

It was per Tally’s request who promised not to tell Abigail and, in what will be one of the most memorable moments of season 2, Raelle started playing her guitar and sang an iconic love song.

What song did she sing? Here’s what we know.

The song Raelle sings in Motherland: Fort Salem season 2

The song Raelle played for Tally is called “The Book of Love.” If you’ve heard it before, the rendition you likely know was released by Peter Gabriel in 2004 on his eighth studio album, Scratch My Back. But, his version is actually a cover. The original song was written by Stephin Merrit of The Magnetic Fields in 1999.

What makes this song’s inclusion in Motherland: Fort Salem season 2 so special, besides Taylor Hickson’s beautiful vocals, is its connection to both her and her mother Willa. Though the pair could never agree on what song to sing together, there’s an implication that they both agreed on “The Book of Love.”

Considering Gabriel’s version of the song includes his daughter, Melanie, on backing vocals, “The Book of Love,” as a favorite song shared between a parent and their child is an apt fit for an episode like “My 3 Dads.”
