After a disappointing fourth episode, American Horror Stories episode 5 gives us the chills, thrills, and shocking surprises we love so much from the AHS universe, restoring our faith in the spin-off series.

The first two episodes of Stories are, in my opinion, “just okay.” Episode 3 is enjoyable, but still not quite there. And episode 4 just about made me want to stop watching. I’m still not over how they didn’t use the great Danny Trejo to his full potential, but I was still planning on watching more episodes.

Why? Because, unlike the original AHS, American Horror Stories delivers a new horror adventure in each episode. I’m so glad I tuned in! Episode 5, “BA’AL,” is everything fans love about the horror universe Ryan Murphy has created.

American Horror Stories features real thrills, twists and turns, and a shocking (and disturbing) surprise. Let’s break down the episode! Needless to say, spoilers are ahead!

American Horror Stories: What happens in episode 5?

American Horror Stories episode 5 follows a young couple who have been struggling to have a baby for two years.

Almost immediately, we learn that Liv (Billie Lourd) is very wealthy, while her husband Matt (Ronen Rubinstein) is a struggling actor. Matt is a great guy. Almost too great. It’s not easy to trust him, and our gut feeling was right!

It’s not revealed until the very end, that Matt only married Liv for the money. Initially, he thought he could be happy with her, but he became greedy and simply tired of her. So Matt, his lover, and his friends decided to make Liv believe she was going crazy.

They made Liv believe that a demon, BA’AL, is the one who finally gave her a baby and that BA’AL now wanted it back. When it is revealed that all of Matt’s friends played a part in Liv’s illusions, it’s pretty heartbreaking.

Matt plans to leave Liv in an asylum for the rest of her days and send his baby off to boarding school while he and his friends enjoy Liv’s money. Little did they know, one of the books they gave Liv is actually the real deal and Liv was able to summon BA’AL and the demon must now do what Liv wishes.

Her first wish is killing all of Matt’s friends, leaving Matt to take the fault as the murderer. But once all of that is done and Matt is in prison, BA’AL demands to be freed, but Liv has one last disturbing request.

She asks BA’AL for another baby, and the demon appears to be more than willing. Jaw drop.

All in all, great episode! It’s one that fans of the original series will definitely enjoy as it includes everything we love about the universe, while also sprinkling plenty of new thrills to enjoy. What did you think about American Horror Stories episode 5?
