The mystery, horrors, and shocking surprises we know and love from the American Horror Story universe returned in American Horror Stories episode 5, making up for the lackluster episode 4. Our main question is, is the demon or go BA’AL, real? Who is the real BA’AL?

American Horror Stories episode 4 was truly disappointing, wasting the talented and intimidating Danny Trejo, but the show must go on! What I love about American Horror Stories, is that each episode will be different.

It features a new cast and new story, delivering a new, fresh horror story in every episodes, instead of each season. This is why I decided to continue watching even after episode 4 — and wow am I glad I did.

If you haven’t watched American Horror Stories episode 5, you need to. It’s everything we love about this Ryan Murphy universe. That said, please note there are spoilers ahead.

American Horror Stories episode 5: Is the demons BA’AL based on a true story?

When Liv (Billie Lourd) does a Google search on the fertility demon, she comes up with very different images than you and I when we do the same. Still, BA’AL is not entirely made up. The story is dramatized, of course, but the legend very much real.

“Baal” was a god worshipped in ancient times, mostly in the Middle Eastern communities. He was considered the god of fertility and was very important to the people, Britannica reports.

There are many version of Baal that popped up when I did a quick research. From stories of Baal bringing lands good rain and soil for crops, to a god seen as immortal and perverted. You can learn more about the latter, here.

Either way, it was certainly creepy! What did you think about the latest episode of American Horror Stories? Have you been enjoying the spin-off series? Don’t forget, American Horror Story season 10 aka Double Feature premieres on Aug. 25, 2021.
