Everybody’s working for the weekend! We are here and I will tell you what this weekend is jam-packed with brand new movies to watch. Here, we list the best movies in theaters and films available on steaming services not to miss.

With some movies being released in theaters and dual-released simultaneously on streaming platforms, it can be a struggle to see what is out every week. So we like to take that stress off your back and highlight the top releases of the weekend.

With the wide range of streaming apps available and more movies coming in theaters, the question of what is coming out is always the topic of discussion. So we wanted to compile an easy list for you to figure out what to watch this weekend.

We have the return of DC comic book movies, the wide release of a Sundance film festival smash hit and Lin-Manuel Miranda continues to take over 2021 with a brand new animated film.

Check out the movies available this weekend, beginning August 6, 2021.

New movies in theaters this weekend

  • The Suicide Squad (Also available on HBO Max)
  • Nine Days
  • Annette (Limited Release)
  • John and the Hole (Limited Release)

No matter what side of the fence you are on about the original Suicide Squad, I think we can all agree upon the release of James Gunn’s trailer for The Suicide Squad; we all forgot that movie even existed now.

The early reviews have called this DC’s best movie yet, which doesn’t surprise me considering that James Gunn made one of the best Marvel films in Guardians of the Galaxy. I can’t wait to check this one out this week!

I have ranted and raved about Nine Days since I saw it at AFI Fest last year. It is truly one of the most unique and original pieces of film to come out in recent times. Edson Oda does a beautiful job of creating this world filled with so many questions that you walk away doing a lot of self-reflecting. Winston Duke breaks out in a way that we have yet to see to date. So if you aren’t a comic book person or looking for an alternative option this weekend, pick this, and you won’t regret it.

New movies to stream from home this weekend

  • Vivo (Netflix)
  • The Swarm (Netflix)
  • F9 (Redbox On-Demand)
  • Val (Prime Video)

Is it the year of Lin-Manuel Miranda? I think so, he had his critically-loved In The Heights release, now he has his latest project Vivo dropping on the streaming giant. The early reviews from critics are calling this Miranda’s best work to date. The family film is dropping at the perfect time with school’s opening this week.
