There aren’t many new shows coming to broadcast in the 2021–2022 season. The ones that are coming sound exciting, especially Ordinary Joe.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m wary of new shows coming to NBC. The network doesn’t tend to have a good track record, but there’s something about Ordinary Joe that pulls me in.

If I’m completely honest, it’s hard to give any new show a chance. With the focus still on live ratings, too many good shows end up canceled because they don’t have time to find an audience. I hope that changes with Ordinary Joe because it is something different to what we’re used to on TV.

What do we know about the new series so far? We have a premiere date, a cast, and even a trailer. Let’s take a look.

Ordinary Joe premiere date

Ordinary Joe is coming to NBC on Monday, Sept. 20. It will take the 10/9c timeslot, which was taken by Manifest during the previous season. It is a tricky timeslot to crack, but hopefully, it can hold its own against The Good Doctor and NCIS: Hawaii.

Ordinary Joe cast

James Wolk will take on the role of Joe Kimbreau. He’ll play three different iterations of the characters. He’s joined by:

  • Natalie Martinez as Amy
  • Charlie Barnett as Eric Payne
  • Elizabeth Lail as Jenny

Some of the other actors will appear in other alternate timelines, but not necessarily all of them. It all depends on how fate goes.

Ordinary Joe trailer

Take a look at the trailer for the series to get an idea of what to expect:

Ordinary Joe synopsis

In our lives, we all reach crossroads. We can choose to go one path and see where it leads us, but we’ll never know what could have happened if we took the other path. They’re known as “sliding door” moments, based on the movie called Sliding Doors starring Gwyneth Paltrow. (It’s a great movie if you haven’t watched it yet.)

That’s the concept here. Joe Kimbreau looks at what life could have been like had he taken three different paths. If he chose to follow his dreams and passion, if he chose to follow loyalty, and if he chose family and love.

What could have happened? Would he still cross paths with others from the alternate timelines? That’s something we get to see.

dark. Next. Why was Good Girls canceled?

Ordinary Joe premieres on Monday, Sept. 20 at 10/9c on NBC. Watch the following day on Peacock.
