What is Marvel Studios’ What If…? about?

Marvel Studios’ What If…?, the animated series that shakes up the Marvel cinematic universe, has made its land on Disney+ with episode 1 “What If…Captain Carter Were The First Avenger?”
Season 1’s ten episode run will see a new “what if” story drop weekly on the platform each Wednesday until October 13, 2021.
There’s been a lot of buzz around the latest MCU project to hit Disney+, but if you’re wondering what the series will focus on, here’s what we know!
We’ll warn you, What If…? is set to take everything you know about the MCU and throw most of it out of the window.
Marvel Studios’ What If…? synopsis
According to a Disney+ press release What If… is about the following:
"“What If…?,” [is a]compelling series that reimagines famous events from films in the MCU. Creating a multiverse of infinite possibilities, “What If… ?” features fan-favorite characters, including Peggy Carter, T’Challa, Doctor Strange, Killmonger, Thor and more. The new series, directed by Bryan Andrews with AC Bradley as head writer, features signature MCU action with a curious twist."
However, to dive deeper into what the show has to offer viewers, you have to consider the multiverse and how a single change can upend a story you’ve come to know and love. To use the premiere episode as an example, Peggy Carter takes the super soldier serum and becomes the world’s first super soldier, not Steve Rogers.
Instead of a Captain America, there’s a Captain Carter and she’s the one who leads the Howling Commandos. Decked in an armored suit bearing the Union Jack, she and her teammates are what stands between the forces of evil working to plunge the world into darkness and those looking to make the world a better place.
How that changes the overall story affects not only her character but those around her. Not to mention canon as a whole. What If…? is for fans interested in seeing major players in the MCU inhabit different roles and take on backstories they never had before.
If you think Captain Carter is a change, witnessing T’Challa as Star Lord in episode 2 will blow your mind.
