CODA, which stands for Child of Deaf Adult, was released earlier this year at Sundance, and quickly became one of the biggest hits the festival had ever seen. Opening to rave reviews, CODA was able to keep its momentum from Day One to the end of the festival.

CODA left the fest after taking home the U.S. Dramatic Audience and Grand Jury Awards, director Siân Heder won the Directing Award, and the film also picked up the Ensemble Cast Award.

But CODA wasn’t just a winner inside the virtual Sundance world, but was the biggest winner in the history of the festival when it sold to Apple TV+ for a massive $25 million. This large sale bested the Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti film Palm Springs, which sold to Hulu/Neon in 2020.

Adapted from the French film La Famille BélierCODA tells the story of Ruby Rossi, who is the only hearing person in her family, as she ultimately has to choose between her families reliance in their fishing business, or to persue her dream to become a singer. Of course, wanting to be a singer in a deaf family isn’t an easy task, but director Siân Heder tells this story with enough humor and heart that should touch anyone watching it.

How will you be watching it? Will the movie be on any streaming services? Here’s what we know.

Can you stream CODA online from home?

Yes! CODA will be available on Apple TV+ and in theaters the same day on Friday, Aug. 13, 2021. Apple TV+ was first launched in 2019, and since then, Apple has been looking for content to really push themselves into the upper echelon of streaming services.

They have broken through in the TV side of things, most notably with their hit series Ted Lasso, and Apple TV+ is hoping that this movie could be one of the first major films the streaming service has on their platform.

CODA’s family friendly and heartwarming nature could be just the thing that Apple TV+ needs to breakthrough in their film platform.
