We all know how close the cast of Friends has still remained after all these years, even reuniting earlier this year for the highly-anticipated reunion special. The main six cast members have such a strong bond after starring in one of the most popular sitcoms of all time, and it seems like they’ve known each other their whole lives. But of course, they all met when being cast for the NBC series, and apparently, not all of them got along at first.

According to Jennifer Aniston herself, she was actually very intimidated by co-star Matt LeBlanc. Could be BE any more surprised? As reported by Looper, the Rachel Green actress shared her first impression of LeBlanc during an interview with People Magazine back in 1995. The publication noted that many of the actors were nervous around Courteney Cox in the beginning because she was a well-known celebrity already.

And Cox wasn’t the only one who made people jumpy. Because Aniston perceived LeBlanc as “muy macho,” she didn’t exactly get off on the right foot with him. “I was scared of that type of guy,” she stated. “He thinks it’s very funny now. And actually, he can sit down and comfort me just like Courteney or Lisa could.”

People Magazine didn’t explain exactly why Aniston looked at LeBlanc this way, but they did note that he’s from Newton, Massachusetts, which is close by downtown Boston. Perhaps the actress had a preconceived notion because of that.

We’re curious to know if LeBlanc truly acted “macho,” but in any case, Aniston fortunately came around and the two became fast friends.

Of course, this is a different first impression than what Aniston had with David Schwimmer, as the two admitted during Friends: The Reunion that they had feelings for each other at the beginning of filming. Although the two never acted on it, fans still find comfort knowing what we saw on our screens had some reality to it.

It really is funny knowing Aniston had some reservations against LeBlanc way back when, because the Friends cast is like a package deal nowadays. Be sure to stream 10 seasons, along with the reunion special, on HBO Max.
