10. Van Helsing

Original Release Date: May 7, 2004

Box Office Earnings: Van Helsing wasn’t really a financial success. With an estimated $160m budget, it only made $51m at opening weekend and $120m in the USA. However, it did make back almost double worldwide.

Critical Acclaim: Critics hated the movie, giving it a low 24% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences were a little more positive but still in the middle at 57%. Honestly, this is one of those movies you don’t want to listen to what other people thing. Watch it because you enjoy it.

About the Role: Hugh Jackman plays the titular role, Van Helsing, the legendary vampire hunter. Making a mess of getting rid of many other mythical creatures, Helsing heads off on one last journey, to take down Count Dracula. He ends up with a love story, a mystery, and a journey of self-discovery along the way.

Simply the Best: If you didn’t love this movie, you went into it expecting the wrong thing. This was never supposed to be an amazing action movie. Van Helsing is purely for fun entertainment, and that’s exactly what Jackman brings to the role.

He’s flawed and annoying, but at the same time, he just wants to make the world a safer place. We get to see character growth, while watching Kate Beckinsale stand out as Anna Valerious.
