The new Candyman movie is poised to be a smash hit! The original Candyman (1992) provided one of the scariest, and best, horror stories to date, as well as one of the best horror villains of all-time in Tony Todd’s terrifying Candyman.

There were two sequels to the original CandymanCandyman: Farewell to the Flesh and Candyman: Day of the Dead. Both of these films were panned by critics and by audiences who saw them. People had initially thought that 2021’s Candyman was going to be a reboot for the franchise, but instead will be a direct sequel of the 1992 film, following in the same structure as Halloween (1978) and Halloween (2018).

This version of Candyman is led by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who recently won an Emmy for HBO’s Watchmen limited series, and will be directed by Nia DaCosta, who is currently signed on to direct Marvel’s The Marvels movie. Maybe the biggest pull for this movie is that it will be written and produced by Jordan Peele, who recently won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for his horror hit Get Out. Peele has become a staple in the horror genre as of late, and his addition makes us that much more excited for this film!

Just in the trailer alone, you can see the same sort of vision that Peele was able to bring to his last two projects, Get Out and Us, but there is a clear new sense of direction from DaCosta that, according to the trailers, mends well with Peele.

Where can you watch Candyman online from home?

Unfortunately, you can’t. However, that may not be the worst thing for this film. DaCosta took to Twitter (before eventually taken down her account) last year to explain the reasoning for why she wanted to release this film in theaters.

Personally, if a filmmaker is willing to fight for their film to be in theaters this much, I am glad their film is being shown the way they intended.

However, I know in these times it still might be uncomfortable for some people to head back to the cinemas. If the film does find its way to a streaming platform, you could likely find it on Peacock.

As of now it is unknown if there will be plans to release the film onto streaming services, but since Universal is owned by NBC, Peacock is the most likely landing spot for the film.

If you do want to watch 1992’s original Candyman, you can find that streaming on Tubi, or rent it on services like Apple TV, Amazon, and YouTube. If you plan to see the newest Candyman, I would recommend watching the original first.
