Weekend, Weekend, Weekend, Weekend, Weekend, well I said it five times and it has appeared and I couldn’t be happier. The weekend is here and we list the best movies in theaters and films available on streaming services you don’t want to miss.

Understanding which movies come out in theaters and which hit streaming services can be a little confusing to figure out. So we like to help you and bring you a quick list of the top releases of the weekend.

With the wealth of streaming apps available and theaters beginning to open up more and more, there are so many new movies released weekly. I wanted to sort through them all and find some of the best options for you to watch.

We have a man who likes candy, an overzealous man we can’t see and a reimagined film from the 90’s all dropping this week.

Check out the movies available this weekend, beginning August 27, 2021.

New movies in theaters to watch this weekend

  • Candyman
  • Flag Day (limited release)

Do you dare to attempt to say his name five times? I won’t, but one thing is for sure, I have waited a LONG TIME for the release of Candyman in theaters. Up and coming writer/director Nia DaCosta has planted her mark in the film world in a very short time and I can’t wait to see what she does within this film.

Another reason to be excited about the film is the actors involved with the film. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II leads the way next to the man having one fantastic year in film and television in Colman Domingo. The cast is stacked and toss in Jordan Peele’s help on the screenplay, and I can’t wait!

New movies to stream from home this weekend

  • Vacation Friends (Hulu)
  • He’s All That (Netflix)
  • Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed (Netflix)
  • No Man of God (VOD)

Lil Rel Howrey is having a fantastic year. From starring in Netflix’s Bad Trip and Fatherhood to his role in Free Guy, and now this week, he stars next to John Cena in the comedy Vacation Friends. The trailer for the film makes the film look like a fun time and I can confirm after watching it this week, it is a blast. It is a super raunchy comedy, but Lil Rel is a national treasure and should be in every comedy movie.

Netflix is reimagining the 90’s classic She’s All That with their new version called He’s All That. We have the feature film debut of TikTok star Addison Rae and is directed by Mean Girls director Mark Waters. It will be interesting to see if they can capture the magic that Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Lee Cook had in the original.
