Is it Friday? Oh, I am excited. Short weeks are the best. The weekend is here and we list the best new movies in theaters and films available on streaming services you don’t want to miss.

The theaters are starting to ramp up and prepare for the fall with Award season, but streaming platforms are doing the same. So like we do every week, we want to share a quick list of the newest films being released this weekend.

Weeding out what is coming out in theaters and streaming can be challenging this time of year. It is hard to figure out from the festivals going on to streaming platforms fulfilling the need to release their movies in theaters to be Oscar eligible.

We’ve got a guy who counts cards, James Wan bringing the scares, and a girl named Kate who needs to be saved.

Check out the movies available this weekend, beginning Sept. 10, 2021.

New movies in theaters to watch this weekend

  • Malignant
  • The Card Counter
  • Queenpins
  • Show Me The Father

Oscar Isaac stars as a former veteran-turned gambler in Paul Schrader’s latest intense thriller, The Card Counter. The early reviews have been a mixed bag but highlight that Isaac gives a fantastic performance. I also am intrigued to see what Tiffany Haddish can do in a more serious role.

James Wan has been scaring us in his movies for close to twenty years and he is back behind the director’s chair to bring us some even more scares. Malignant follows a young woman who witnesses a murder and it turns into something far worse. We are on a high for horror movies since Candyman came out, so we can’t wait to see this one.

New movies to stream from home this weekend

  • Malignant (HBO Max)
  • Kate (Netflix)
  • The Gateway (Redbox/VOD)
  • The Voyeurs (Prime Video)
  • The Killing of Two Lovers (Hulu)

The trailer for The Voyeurs gives away a more R-Rated version of Disturbia vibes to it. Fresh off her role in White Lotus, we are excited to see what Sydney Sweeney does as the lead in this movie.

What will you be watching this weekend? Will you enjoy a movie in theaters or streaming?
