LEGO Masters season 2 is a wrap! The season 2 winners are Mark and Steven, who have delivered impressive builds from Day 1. Check out our interview with the LEGO champs, below!

The last three teams were spectacular! I enjoyed all three builds. After a few episodes, I knew this would all be between Zack and Wayne and Mark and Steve, both teams are very skilled builders and deserving of the title.

Ultimately, it’s Mark and Steve’s build that stole the show. Truly one of the most amazing builds I’ve ever seen that displayed their skills as LEGO builders.

Hidden Remote got to chat with LEGO Masters season 2 winners Mark and Steven, and they share which build is their favorite from another team, their experience, which build was the most challenging, and more!

LEGO Masters season 2 winners Mark and Steven on learning they are the new, official LEGO Masters

Hidden Remote: Mark and Steven, first of all, congratulations! Walk me through your first thoughts after hearing your names called as the winners.

Steven and Mark: Thank you very much!

Steven: It was a whirlwind of every emotion you can imagine! The huge journey that we had gone through payed off in the end. It’s like no other experience.

Mark: Immensely fulfilling!

HR: Are the suspenseful pauses real? When Will goes, “and…the winner….is…”?

Mark: Oh yeah! It’s like 5 to 10 minutes, no joke!

Steven: No! Not that long [laughs] but it felt like that! It was probably 2-3 minutes, but for us it felt like 10 or 15 minutes just waiting for Will to say a name, and it was ours.

The best LEGO builds in LEGO Masters season 2

HR: Out of all that you created, which one is your favorite build?

Steven: Not including the finale build, I think for me it’s the dragon [from the “Puppet Masters” episode], it was the most polished and had a lot of character.

Mark: I have to say, for me it’s probably the first build we made.

HR: Did you take any home?

Mark: No, all the pieces are disassembled for the next challenge, so we didn’t get to take any.

Steven: There were a few tiny scraps from the explosion challenge I picked up from the floor [laughs], but don’t tell!

HR: Which task did you find the most challenging?

Steven: The make and shake challenge, the tower challenge! That was very difficult based on the constraints, you know? Eight hours to build a 4 foot structure is a tall order, no pun intended.

HR: Was there a build that changed you? That made you learn something new?

Mark: I know that using a lot of motors and technic was a big stretch for us, because we like to build things that are pretty, but not necessarily things that move. So we had to really learn on the fly to master those elements in order to do well.

HR: Which build from another team was your favorite?

Steven: Oooh, I really like Dave and Richard’s Chicago float. It was very underrated. The dragons were amazing [Zack and Wayne’s build], but I loved the pizza and the hot dog.

Mark: That’s what I was going to say! In challenge one, everyone was blown away by Zack and Wayne’s dragons, it’s one of my favorites.

LEGO Masters season 2 winners Mark and Steven on the building process

HR: How is the building process, because we only see about 30-40 minutes of you guys putting everything together, when you have hours! 24 hours in this last challenge. Are the judges Amy and Jamie coaching you more than the cameras show?

Mark: Yeah, the judges will come by two or three times per challenge to give you feedback as you build and again as you are nearing the end. Sometimes you have time to implement the advice, sometimes you don’t.

HR: Does the timer pause for bathroom breaks or lunch?

Steven: Just lunch breaks! Any other sort of breaks—

Mark: Like for bathroom breaks, or to get a drink of water.

Steven: Yeah, that’s on your time. Or if the challenge is broken up into a few days you have some time.

Mark: For example, the 24 hour challenge was broken up into three different days.

LEGO Masters season 2 behind-the-scenes fun

HR: Were there any moments that happen behind-the-scenes or something that didn’t make the final cut you’d like to share?

Steven: I had one cool moment, the episode with the puppet. Where the guy who’s voicing Billy Puppet, that was Steve Whitmire, the voice of Kermit the Frog! So we got to hang out with him. I got to exchange a few kinds words with him, he’s like my hero. I got to interact with my childhood hero.

Mark: Just hanging out and having fun with all the contestants. Not all the great camaraderie makes it through to the final edit, you only get to see a little bit of it.

HR: Oh so you guys do hang out a lot with the other teams?

Mark: Oh yeah! We were only supposed to hang out with them because of COVID safety restriction, we were all just in a bubble.

Steven: Yeah, we spend a lot of time with the other competitors—they’re like our family really.

HR: What is your biggest takeaway?

Steven: Use more color!

Mark: [laughs] Exactly! We learned to use more color, we now try to put the wild pizzaz, to stand out more.

HR: Now, you guys are the LEGO Masters, but you’re no longer the Castle Bros. Is there going to be rematch to reclaim that title? Or are you fine with your new title, instead?

Steven: We’ll keep the LEGO Masters title haha! We’ll let Caleb and Jacob have the Castle Bros.
