You did it! You made it through yet another week! It is finally the weekend and that means it’s time to catch up on the latest Netflix shows and movies. Kick off your shoes, loosen your belt and grab your favorite seat. It was not a busy week for new releases but we’ll let you know which ones you need to be checking out.

Though there weren’t a ton of new Netflix shows and movies this week, they make up for it by giving you a good variety. This week, we have the return of a fan favorite scripted series and a fan favorite reality show. We also have the premiere of a new adult animated series. If you’re looking for a movie instead, there is a new PG thriller starring Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) and a documentary about a legendary Formula 1 racer.

In case you missed the new Netflix shows and movies from last week, let’s refresh your memory. The last season of Lucifer was released last week and is currently holding down the number one spot on Netflix’s top 10.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey) and Woody Harrelson’s (Zombieland) movie Kate is currently number three. The Circle released its first four episodes last week and four more this week. That series is currently the fourth most popular title on Netflix.

All of the above are great options if you need more since this is a light week, but let’s get into the new releases.

Best show this week on Netflix

One of the more popular Netflix shows to premiere in the past few years is back with a new season. Sex Education was applauded for its intelligent conversations about the title subject in its first season but turned into more of a high school drama in season two.

Most fans saw this as a departure from what made them fall in love with the show which moved the show onto shaky ground. Well, according to early reviews, the Sex Education that fans fell in love with in season 1 is back!

If you were on the fence about getting back into the show because of how last season went, it sounds like you are safe to return. For those who were considering giving the show a chance, now is as good a time as any as the buzz is likely to be intense.

Best movie this week on Netflix

This week is light on films but Nightbooks certainly appears to be worth a look. Nightbooks is a movie about a kid who is a horror fan and a writer. He is lured into the home of a witch (played by Krysten Ritter) who forces him to read her a horror story every night. The horror stories keep her from doing worse to him and give him time to plot his escape.

It is a children’s horror movie but Ritter does a good job of adding enough suspense to the movie to make it tolerable for parents without going too far for most kids to also be able to enjoy the film. If you’re looking for some family-friendly fare you can certainly do worse. Alternatively, you can add Nightbooks to your list for viewing closer to the Halloween season.
