Fans of The Sopranos can’t wait to check out the prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark. We’re all looking forward to seeing our favorite characters, but one didn’t make the cut! Here’s why.

Those hoping to see Edie Falco as Carmela may feel a bit disappointed to learn that her scene was almost part of The Many Saints of Newark, but it sadly did not make the cut.

TV Line shared that fans hoping to spot Edie Falco as Carmela in the upcoming prequel can “fuhgeddaboudit.”

The Many Saints of Newark is set in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and follows Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), the father of The Sopranos‘s Christopher (Michael Imperioli). The movie will see Tony Soprano as a teen, who is played by the late James Gandolfini’s own son, Michael.

Why is Carmela not in The Many Saints of Newark?

The film’s director, Alan Taylor, shared with the NME that one never knows what will make the final cut. The crew films and captures as much as they can, but the final decision happens during editing.

"“…when you make a movie, you’re not exactly sure the finale shape it’s going to be and we, believe it or not, shot a few things that included other cast members,” Taylor said."

One of these cast members is Edie Falco, who portrayed Carmela in Sopranos. Taylor shared that he asked Falco to come in and she filmed a scene. However, it unfortunately didn’t make the final movie. “But it was a great excuse to see her again,” Taylor said.

Now, we’re not sure what scene could have included Carmela. TV Line suggests, perhaps, a scene from the future? Tony’s funeral?

It’s also important to note that Taylor said the scene didn’t “make the final movie,” so could it be included in the bonus footage that comes with the Blu-ray copies? Let’s hope so! I know Sopranos fans would absolutely love that.

The Many Saints of Newark premieres in theaters on Friday, Oct. 1, and will stream on HBO Max the same day.
