Riverdale season 5 is closing in on its end tonight as we head into the penultimate episode “Chapter Ninety-Four: Next to Normal.”

We’re in for a somber yet musical affair in episode 18 of the season as each character deals with the aftermath of “Chapter Ninety-Three: Dance with Death.”

Give the ending of that episode, the Coopers are going to take center stage as Polly’s missing persons case has now been closed. We may not know the exact details of what happened to her, but it’s been confirmed she’s dead.

As such, viewers should be prepared for a grief arc in “Chapter Ninety-Four: Next to Normal” that’ll see Betty and Alice mourning the loss of Polly and working through the emotional weight of her murder.

What is Riverdale season 5, episode 18 about?

Tonight’s musical episode is triggered by Alice’s grief. Unable to accept what happened to her daughter, Alice creates a fantasy world where her family is not only intact but they’re all happy and thriving.

It’s a situation that’ll have Betty scared for her mother’s emotional well-being and leave the two women at odds as she works to help Alice accept their new reality. Meanwhile, Jabitha will be wrapped up in a fake dating plot thanks to Tabitha asking Jughead to pretend to be her boyfriend when her parents come to visit.

Varchie will also be exploring their relationship, but there’s has to do with next steps. Will they really be moving in together? Can they do so with the shadow of Chad’s death looming over them? Does Archie know Veronica killed her ex-husband in self-defense? These are all questions we hope are answered in episode 18.
