Halloween (1978)

Where is it streaming? Shudder

Why you should watch: Halloween (the original) by all accounts is the best of the Michael Myers Canon. The story follows the infamous Michael Myers. After brutally murdering his sister 15 years prior, Myers escapes a mental hospital to terrorize the same town in which he once lived.

You won’t want to miss Halloween during the month of October and it’s always fun to relive Jamie Lee Curtis’ breakout performance. Plus, re-watching Halloween could be a great primer for the newest installment in the Canon: Halloween Kills, which hits theaters on October 15.

The Munsters

Where is it streaming? Peacock

Why you should watch: If you really want a classic to turn back the clock, look no further than The Munsters. This hilarious family sitcom centers around a family who just happen to all be monsters. One of the better long running gags on the show was the niece, Marilyn, who was a normal human, but considered the ‘ugly duckling’ of the family.

The Munsters no doubt led the way for future ‘unconventional family in a conventional world’ shows and movies especially, Coneheads. The structure of The Munsters, while silly, lends itself to comedy so well that it more or less paved the way family comedies were made. The Munsters only lasted two seasons, but that may make for one of the best shows to binge during the month of October.
