It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years and ten seasons of American Horror Story. When Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk introduced their vision for a horror anthology on Oct. 5, 2011, no one knew what to expect. It wasn’t long before American Horror Story captured the imaginations of fans everywhere with its chilling stories and in-your-face social commentary.

There have been ten seasons of American Horror Story, and each season features a different story. Many cast members have been part of the series since the early years, with new faces joining in the fun along the way.

The first season of the show didn’t have an official title but over the years has become known as Murder House. Murder House was followed by Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult, Apocalypse, 1984 and the current season, Double Feature.

The AHS social media account celebrated the occasion with a tweet depicting two original cast members, Evan Peters and Frances Conroy, in their season 1 and season 10 roles.

Early on, Murphy revealed that there were stories that linked the seasons together, leading fans to speculate wildly on social media how the seasons could be connected. When characters started crossing over between the series, it delighted fans and gave them even more reason to watch carefully for clues about themes for upcoming seasons.

For example, there was a conversation between characters in season 9’s 1984 that revolved around aliens and Bigfoot. Bigfoot showed up in the AHS spinoff American Horror Stories, which airs exclusively on Hulu, while aliens are the basis for the second story in Double Feature.

American Horror Story changed the game for American television when it welcomed the same actors to take on new roles in the ever-changing anthology series. Couple that with Murphy and Falchuk’s trademark twists and turns, and it was the making of a hit from the very beginning.
