NCIS: Hawaii has premiered on CBS and so far has seen decent ratings since it joined the main NCIS franchise. The first spinoff of the show was NCIS: LA, which will be airing Season 13 on Oct. 10. NCIS: New Orleans was on air for 7 seasons before being cancelled. But with all of these different shows in the franchise, do you need to watch the others before watching Hawaii?

NCIS: Hawaii follows NCIS agents who work out of the field office in Pearl Harbor. They are led by Jane Tennant, played by Vanessa Lachey.

Other cast members include Alex Tarrant as Kai Holman, Noah Mills as Jesse Boone, Yasmine Al-Bustami as Lucy Tara, Jason Antoon as Ernie Malik, and Tori Anderson as Kate Whistler.

The show has seen decent views since it first aired, although ratings were low after the third episode aired on Oct. 4. However, it has held pretty steady so far and it appears it has a good audience following.

Can you watch NCIS: Hawaii without catching up on rest of the franchise?

Having watched the first three shows in the NCIS franchise, I can say it’s unnecessary to watch them before you watch NCIS: Hawaii. While there may be mentions of other field offices or characters in those offices, you won’t miss any big plot arcs, unless they do decide to do a crossover.

There have been some crossover episodes on the other shows, such as Agent Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) visiting Los Angeles while Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) spent time in New Orleans.

While the crossover episodes did introduce audiences to new characters in hopes to attract viewers, it hasn’t been necessary to continue watching. However, there aren’t any crossovers planned with Hawaii as of yet.

At any rate, there aren’t mentions of major cases or plot lines that occur in NCIS within NCISLA and vice versa. So you can get to know the Hawaii cast and only them if you are just interested in that show in general!
