Grey’s Anatomy is in its eighteenth season and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. The doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial are busy as ever, slowly emerging from the fierce grip of COVID-19 and returning to the frantic pace of life in a hospital. How many episodes are in Grey’s Anatomy season 18?

The official number of episodes in Grey’s Anatomy season 18 hasn’t been released yet, but if previous seasons are any indication then the new season could feature anywhere from 21 to 24 episodes.

How many episodes will be in Grey’s Anatomy season 18?

Season 17, which was shot during the coronavirus pandemic, featured a truncated season of only 17 episodes. The fact that the show was able to produce any episodes was a miracle given the challenges of filming amid all of the uncertainties of the pandemic, and in truth the COVID-19 protocols in place could make season 18 a shorter season as well.

Just as life imitates art, art imitates life in season 17 as Ellen Pompeo’s Dr. Meredith Grey contracted COVID-19 and slipped into a coma. She spent the majority of the season on a beach with members of the cast who had passed away in previous seasons. Her dream guests included Patrick Dempsey, T.R. Knight, Chyler Leigh and Eric Dane.

Season 18 is the first season without Jesse Williams, Giacomo Gianniotti and Greg Germann, but it features the highly-anticipated return of Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Montgomery. The door is always open for more cameos and surprise appearances. (And season 17 proves that a character doesn’t have to be alive to make a cameo…)

Grey’s Anatomy continues to deliver big moments that make it one of the most highly rated shows on Thursday nights, even after all these years. Grey Sloan Memorial has no shortage of romance, drama and intrigue that keep fans coming back for more. And while there’s no telling how many more seasons are left for the beloved show, so fans will take as many episodes as they can.
