Do Julien and Obie get back together in Gossip Girl (2021) season 1?

Julien and Obie are by far the messiest romantic relationship in Gossip Girl (2021) season 1. The two call it quits in the premiere only for Obie to start courting Julien’s sister, Zoya, a mere episode later. From there the audience is treated to a storyline that has all the makings of a love triangle set to bloom.

Spoilers ahead of Gossip Girl (2021) season 1

Neo-Queen J is somehow always in the middle of Zobie’s budding romance even when she doesn’t mean to be. Though to be fair, that’s what happens when your sister decides to date your ex-boyfriend who you were with for years.

Eventually, it became clear that something was going to have to give. Despite Zobie moving forward together, Julien hadn’t shaken her deep feelings for Obie. It was plain as day that she was still in love with him and in the midseason finale, Obie’s feelings for her made a resurgence at the worst possible time.

People have found love in the middle of protesting, but rekindling a love while the person is dating your sibling isn’t a good look. Things came to a head in that regard around the Thanksgiving table as Julien and Obie admitted to Zoya that they had slept together.

This confession came on the heels of Obie telling Zoya that he loves her even though he really loves Julien. You’d think that disaster would clean itself up once all three parties involved were aware of where they stood, but it wouldn’t be Gossip Girl (2021) if that were the case.

Do Obie and Julien get back together in Gossip Girl (2021) season 1?

Despite Obie and Julien initially wanting to be together again, the two didn’t reunite. Their timing has never been the best in the series, and Julien fell into the middle of her dad’s sexual assault allegations scandal before the two could really talk about their feelings.

When Obie does work up the courage to tell Julien that he loves her, she’s preoccupied with trying to weather the storm of a false accusation. She’d been accused of attempting to silence a rape survivor when she’d actually been trying to help her build a more solid case against her dad.

Concerned about her image and the whirlwind of bad press and harassment her life had turned into, Julien lashed out at Obie and didn’t reciprocate his love declaration even though she does love him. Though she tried to rectify what she did, Obie had already moved on by New Year’s.

Julien regressed back into her old behavior to try to win Obie back but ultimately they were no longer on the same page. Obie wanted to find out who he is outside of Julien and that means giving his relationship with Grace an honest try. Julien respected his wishes and patched the couple’s romance up herself by coming clean to Grace about what she did.

There’s still something between Obie and Julien but for now they’re friends.
