Where can you stream West Side Story online before the Oscars?

UPDATE: West Side Story will stream on Disney+ on March 2, Deadline reports. It’ll be available to stream for free as part of your subscription. 

West Side Story arrived in theaters on Dec. 10, 2021, and wowed audiences and critics alike. We knew an Oscar nomination was coming, and on Feb. 8, it was confirmed. But if you’ve yet to watch the movie, where can you watch it? Can you stream West Side Story online from home before the big night?

Based on the 1957 stage musical of the same name, West Side Story, the romantic musical drama came to life again, this time, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler.

What is West Side Story about?

The story takes place in New York City in the 1950s, the movie follows Tony (Ansel Elgort) and Maria (Rachel Zegler), two teenagers who fall in love, but their families are in rival street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, and prohibit the relationship.

When did West Side Story premiere in theaters?

The movie premiered on Nov. 29 at the Jazz at Lincoln Center, but its wide release is on Dec. 10, 2021, with limited screening beginning tonight, Dec. 9, 2021. The movie played in theaters worldwide, but it didn’t steam on any platform.

Where can you stream West Side Story online?

The movie is actually still playing in select theaters. So if you want that big-screen experience, you can still get it. Unfortunately, the movie is still not available on any streaming platform. And now that it’s an Oscar-nominated movie, I doubt the studio is in any rush to stream the movie to take advantage of box office sales.

The 94th annual Academy Awards will take place on March 27 at the Hollywood Dolby Theatre and be televised on ABC.
