When does Riverdale season 6 return to The CW in 2022?

Riverdale season 6’s “Rivervale” event wraps up Tuesday, Dec. 14 with the show’s 100th episode. In celebratory fashion, we’ll be embarking on a blast from the past with an homage to the series’ iconic comics origins.

Somehow, likely by the end of the episode, we’ll be dropped back into the Riverdale we know and love which will see us saying goodbye to Rivervale.

It’s been quite the five episode journey as many Riverdale characters have met their end in this miniseries within the series that’ll have repercussions in the overall season moving forward.

When does Riverdale season 6 return in 2022?

Unfortunately, we’ll be waiting quite awhile for Riverdale‘s return in 2022 and the show won’t be airing on Tuesdays like fans grew accustom to in the fall. New episodes of season 6 will make their debut starting Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

What is the rest of Riverdale season 6 about?

Not much is known about Riverdale season 6 beyond the “Rivervale” event, however, in an interview with TVLine, Madelaine Petsch teased the following about her character Cheryl:

"I’ll just say there’s a character in “Rivervale” that you will continue to see in Riverdale, and she has to do with me. That’s all I’ll say."

Considering her answer came on the heels of a question asking whether Archie, Betty, and Jughead need to watch their backs since Cheryl swore revenge on them in the season 5 finale, we have a feeling that the peace Abigail found in “Rivervale” won’t extend to Riverdale just yet.

We’ll have to wait to see if the horror story showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased to Variety will revolve around Cheryl’s vengeance, but it would make sense if it does. “Rivervale” after all was seemingly born from Abigail’s curse that Cheryl recited with Nana Rose and Britta.

RAS’ unsettling warning about the rest of Riverdale season 6 does have us worried though since he said, “Death is definitely coming to Riverdale, and it is definitely permanent.”

We lost so many characters in “Rivervale” and though we’ve been assured that they’ll all be coming back, knowing that we’ll be losing someone for good has us on the edge of our seats.
