I’m sure you can imagine that if you watch as many films as I do, there are some bad apples in the bunch. Of course, I’m not particularly eager to dunk on bad movies, but quite a few this year deserve to be. So when weighing the options for worst movies of the year, I factor in a few different things.

First, what was my expectation for the film? Did I go into the movie with high expectations and the movie didn’t meet them? Second, I take a look at the film. Why was it bad? The acting? The story? Last, how did it make me feel? Did I feel like I needed a cold shower after to take the stench off of watching it? Or did the film send off a message I didn’t like? So let’s talk about the seven worst movies of the year.

Worst movies of 2021: Dear Evan Hansen

Speaking of a film that sent off a wrong message, I kick off the list with Dear Evan Hansen. Very few films in film history have left as bad a taste in my mouth as this one did. I thought everything about this movie was deplorable. Mental health is an essential thing that needs to be discussed in our country. However, how it is portrayed in this film is disturbing.

You have the terrible actions of Evan Hansen, followed by the excuses made for what he did, to the repair of trying to paint him in a light that was even remotely good. I LOATHED this film so much. The character legit made up an entire story about how he was friends with a guy to sleep with his sister? How, please tell me HOW anyone thought this was cute? Or funny? Or even good? I don’t understand.

Dear Evan Hansen isn’t just one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It is the most alarming, disrespectful damaging film I’ve seen in my lifetime.
