Why is Charli XCX not performing on Saturday Night Live tonight? (December 18)

Charli XCX was set to be the musical guest at tonight’s live taping of Saturday Night Live, but her performance and appearance were canceled last minute — here’s why!

Saturday Night Live fans were not happy to learn that Charli XCX would be the musical guest at Paul Rudd‘s episode of SNL on December 18. Unfortunately, only a few hours before the live taping of the show, her appearance was canceled. Paul Rudd will still host.

Charli XCX will not be the musical guest tonight, we’re not sure if there even will be a musical performance. Additionally, fans who waited for long hours outside the studio to get tickets will be turned down tonight.

Why is Charli XCX not on Saturday Night Live tonight?

All of these cancelations were super last minute, so we can only imagine how heartbroken Charli XCX and fans who had tickets to the show are. A few hours ago, Saturday Night Live announced these changes, saying that they are due to the spike in the Omicron variant. No one in the cast or crew (including Charli) are sick, but they want to take caution.

That said, SNL was sad to announce that there will be no live audience for tonight’s show, and even the cast and crew are limited. NBC’s SNL is closely following government safety guidelines “in addition to a rigorous testing protocol.” They also announced on Twitter that more information will follow for fans who have tickets to the showing, my guess is that they will be allowed to attend the next show, but who knows when that will be!

We’re glad SNL is being super careful! There will also not be a show next week due to Christmas, or the next several weeks as the sketch comedy show will be going on a winter break. As soon as we learn more and know when SNL returns, we’ll update you!
