Space Jam

For many years, rumors circulated that there would be a Space Jam 2. Generally, I’m personally very skeptical of sequels after too wide of a gap in years between the first movie — especially after 25 years. It’s not like Michael Jordan’s acting knocked it out of the park in the first movie, but it still had that nostalgic 90’s flair to it.

Coming into this release in July 2021, I was uncertain to say the least how it would turn out, but at the same time optimistic. In Space Jam: A New Legacy, the modern animation and amalgamation graphics made it so much more enjoyable.

In addition to that, the Looney Tunes character personalities were perfectly executed by the writers. Keep in mind, Bugs Bunny has been around for 80 years now. It’s not an easy task to keep Bugs and the rest of the tunes looney and also up-to-date with the times.

This movie’s star is obviously none other than LeBron James — the best basketball player in the world (and has been for quite some time). Superstar James and his young son, Dom (Cedric Joe), get trapped in a new digital world by an evil scoundrel tech genius AI-G (Don Cheadle). While trapped in this new dimension, in order to get home safely and get his son Dom back from Al-G, James has to beat Al-G in a game of basketball. James decides to team up with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and the rest of the Tunes. Little did they know, their opponent would end up being The Goon Squad, which contained Dom and digitized animals/reptiles that were incorporated with a combination of talents from Dom’s video game, and talents from real NBA players (sound familiar?). It’s a really fun family movie filled with tons of laughs, nostalgic factor with the Looney Tunes, and slightly better acting than Jordan by James. It’s a real family treat.
