Raya and the Last Dragon

This Walt-Disney American computer-animated fantasy adventure film captivated the hearts of many homes in 2021. In fact, back in October the film made over $130 million worldwide. Originally, it was released March 2021 and has sustained its significance throughout the entire year.

On the surface, the film is based on Southeast Asian culture, while simultaneously adding a fantasy world called Kumandra. An exhilarating world where humans and dragons can live together. That is until, acquisitive monsters known as the Druun threaten the land, the dragons and will do whatever it takes to save humanity. It fast-forwards 500 years, and the Druun return, and it’s up to a lone warrior named Raya to track down the last dragon and put an end to the Druun’s mayhem.

To illustrate, the character development was absolutely phenomenal in this film. It almost reminded me of a combination between Moana and Frozen (also two great family films). The Disney writers did a riveting job with the script writing and capturing the raw emotions with Raya. Sometimes those emotional moments in movies can seem a bit forced, but not in this case at all. This remarkable family movie will bring out every emotion in your body and you’ll likely want to experience it over and over again with this film. Nonetheless, a visual charmer and we now have a new heroic Disney princess to cheer for.
