When it comes to acting, some people really embody their characters. For fans of Bob’s Burgers, it really does feel like Jay Johnston embodied Jimmy Pesto to a tee. Just kidding but the recent news about Johnston really seems to put the show in a precarious position.

If you didn’t know, Jay Johnston voices Jimmy Pesto on Bob’s Burgers and it’s been recently reported that he has been banned from the show. This is due to the fact that it was reported Johnston took part in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Since then, we have not heard Johnston’s voice on the series.

While Johnston has been identified a few times, it’s unclear if the show had done anything about it until recently. Even so, it does bring up a major question when it comes to the series and it’s how the show is going to handle Jimmy Pesto. Pesto wasn’t a major character by any means, but his presence as Bob’s foil is something a lot of fans have come to appreciate.

While fans seem to agree with Bob’s Burgers, it does bring up a few ideas of how the show can handle Jimmy Pesto from this point. With Johnston essentially being fired from the show, there are a few options. As fans, it’s only right for us to explore and figure out which one will work best for the series.

What does Jay Johnston’s Bob’s Burgers exit mean for Jimmy Pesto?

The options are pretty simple, but each could be worth exploring for Bob’s Burgers. The first and easiest route would be to replace Johnston with a different voice actor. Jimmy Pesto has been a mainstay for a majority of the series and his rivalry with Bob is pretty iconic. The simplest way to make sure Pesto stays in the picture would be to find a different voice actor to replace Jay Johnston.

If the show didn’t want to go that route, there are two other options to explore. Of course, the show hasn’t been the best when it comes to finding replacements. We still have yet to see a replacement for Marshmallow. The show has managed to feature more female guest stars though but it’s still up in the air how the show will decide to handle both Marshmallow and Jimmy Pesto.

Another option would be to replace Jimmy with one of his relatives. Writing Jimmy off the show is one thing but no one wants them to write off the kids. If they did, Tina would lose her crush and Louise would lose some friends. That’s why it would be fun to see the show replace Jimmy by saying his cousin/brother or something in his family took over the restaurant. That’s a simple enough way to explain it without getting into the messy details.

Last but certainly not least would be to have Trev, Jimmy’s right-hand man take over the restaurant and turn it into something completely different. Once again, the show wouldn’t have to get into details but could easily make Trev the new owner. Obviously, the kids would still stay with him so that would be easy enough. No matter what the show decides to do, it’s clear they’re in a pickle and we’re planning on having to deal with a member of the cast being part of the riots.

Overall, things aren’t looking for Jimmy Pesto or Jay Johnston. Either way, it’s going to be interesting to see how the show handles this. While it’s unlikely that they’d completely ax Jimmy Pesto, it’s a possibility. However, as big of a role as he had, I don’t think he’ll go the way of Marshmallow.
