From the beginning of ‘Bob’s Burgers’ until now, Bob and Jimmy Pesto have been at odds. Despite that, the two could be considered friends especially now.

Fans of Bob’s Burgers know the name: Jimmy Pesto. Some despise him, some love him but Pesto has been a solid presence in the Belchers’ life. He has been Bob’s enemy throughout, but their dislike for each other has also built a kinship. The latest episode proved that but there’s still a lot of history to unpack.

There will be spoilers from the latest Bob’s Burgers episode, “A Few ‘Gurt Men.”

We were first introduced to Jimmy Pesto in “Sheesh, Cab, Bob!” where he tells Bob to shave his mustache to get Jimmy Jr at Tina’s party. Already, we were poised to not like him especially after he tries to steal the restaurant in “Burger Wars.”  He doesn’t appear again until season two and three. In the episodes “Burgerboss” and “Tina-Rannosaurus Wrecks”, Jimmy taunts Bob with a video game and then a car accident.

Pesto continues to torture Bob throughout season 3, but “Family Fracas” was a turning point. At the end of the episode, Bob helps Jimmy change a tire. It’s a small favor but it shows Bob doesn’t want Jimmy to be humiliated in front of his kids. Jimmy shows he has the same ideas as Bob in “Easy Com-mercial, Easy Go-mercial” but both still win.

The two finally team up in “The Oeder Games” in an effort to keep their rent price. Eventually, Jimmy betrays Bob but it’s a start. He goes back a few steps but trying to humiliate Bob in “Glued, Where’s My Bob?” The second most recent appearance by Pesto was “They Serve Horses, Don’t They” where Pesto actually tries to give Bob a helpful tip.

In the latest episode “A Few ‘Gurt Men,” Jimmy and Bob find out they’re both being scammed and they decide to exact some revenge. They try to prove he’s a scammer at Mort’s mother’s birthday party but their plan goes awry when they don’t actually get anything. Bob used his credit card, didn’t read the user agreement and didn’t get a refund. The episodes focus might have been on Louise and Frond, but it was nice to see Jimmy and Bob work together for a common goal.

Jimmy and Bob aren’t going to be best friends anytime soon. However, their relationship has grown and changed throughout the series. The most obvious example for growth was when Bob didn’t ruin Jimmy’s fun when he pretended a crime happened in his restaurant.

Their friendship might not be ideal, but the two need each other. Without their rivalry, they wouldn’t be such great businessmen. They motivate each other in a weird way and have a “peeing race” according to Linda. It’s a weird relationship but something only Bob and Jimmy could benefit from.

Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays on Fox at 7:30/6:30c.
