New Year’s Eve is often a time to look back over the year. Want to skip that again? Here are six Hulu shows to watch instead.

We usually spend New Year’s Eve looking back at moments from the year. That wasn’t something we wanted to do in 2020, and it’s probably not something you want to do in 2021 either. Do we really need to relive the drama of the pandemic?

Maybe you’re not even in the mood for the ball drop. Instead, you want to watch Hulu shows with friends and family. There are some great options for all different interests.

The full list can be overwhelming. Here are six Hulu shows we highly recommend for New Year’s Eve 2021.

6 must-watch Hulu shows on New Year’s Eve 2021

This list is in alphabetical order. After all, it’s way too hard to compare the various genres.

Animaniacs

We start with one for the whole family. You may have children who want to try to stay up until midnight, so you need to find something that’s suitable for them. Don’t worry; they won’t make it! That’s not because of bad TV but because they just won’t get to midnight.

While you wait for them to fall asleep, but on Animaniacs. The second season dropped in 2021 and you may have missed it with so much other content available. It’s a great series for adults too as you remember the original series.

Dollface

Want something for when the kids have gone to bed? The rest of the Hulu shows are great. Dollface is the one to start.

This series follows a woman who breaks up with her boyfriend. She realizes that she’s forgotten all about the friends she once had to favor her relationship, and now she has to make changes to get her friends back. It’s a great journey to see how we, as women, tend to put our full attention on partners but we need to find balance and put our friends first at times.

The second season is coming in 2022 so you’ll want to watch the first season to get caught up.

Nine Perfect Strangers

Looking for a thriller? Liane Moriarty has some great books and they’re getting various adaptations. Nine Perfect Strangers was one from 2021.

Nicole Kidman stars as Marsha, a Russian woman who runs a special retreat. Nine strangers turn up to this exclusive retreat, where they learn it’s far more than just a spa weekend. As they uncover the truth at the retreat, they also learn a world about themselves.

Pen15

Hulu has some good comedies. One you don’t want to miss out on is Pen15. The series follows Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle as teenage versions of themselves in the year 2000. We head back to middle school and see their stories play out.

Maya and Anna are surrounded by teenagers. It’s a weird but hilarious look at middle school when life can change with the stroke of a gel pen. There is a third season hopefully coming in 2022. This is confirmed as the final season.

The Great

For those who love satire, The Great is one of the best Hulu shows around. Season 2 dropped just last month, but you may not have had time to watch it yet. Use New Year’s Eve as a chance to play catch up.

The first season saw Catherine work on overthrowing Peter. The second season sees what she has to do to keep her power while also pregnant. It’s just as funny and just as outrageous as the first season. Yes, it’s also just as violent and sometimes stays true to history.

The Handmaid’s Tale

There’s no way you can go the year without watching The Handmaid’s Tale. Season 4 dropped earlier in 2021. Even if you did watch it, you need to check it out again.

This series needs no introduction. However, the fourth season sees Canada in focus much more as June and the Handmaids attempt another escape from Gilead. Will they ever make it out, and will June ever get Hannah back?
